Process Paper
My partner and I decided on doing our project on the atomic bomb. We chose this topic because we are both interested in the World Wars and the history behind
them. Instead of doing a broad topic such as World War one or World War two, we broke it down into a more specific topic. We decided to either go with doing D-
Day or the creation of the atom bomb as they were both major parts of World War two, where in the end, we decided to do the creation of the atom bomb.
For our research, we both had a basic idea of what occurred during World War two with the dropping of the atom bombs in Japan. We then went further and
looked into the topic more deeply by reading through books covering World War two from the time where Japan was bombed by the United States. We then looked
into the actual creation and science behind making the bombs and what it took to develop them. This research came from different websites and book sources.
There were several different categories in which we could present our project. We decided to do the website for a few reasons. We could not do a research paper
since there are two of us and that is a single person project. We also thought it would be easier to compile enough research and information on a website with both of
us and our prior knowledge on the topic. We did not want to try making a play because neither of us want to have to perform in front of people; we simply aren’t good
at it. We could not do an exhibit because they were not an option for our class this year. A documentary was questioned at first due to the fact we both knew how to
make movies on computers but we felt that the website offered more benefits than the documentary.
For the theme this year of turning points in history, our topic fit in very well. When the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, it had a huge effect on morale to
both sides of the war. It leads to the Japanese surrendering after another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, and the Allied forces closing in on the German army from
all sides. It became a major move in ending the war and bringing about peace quicker. That is why our topic fits into this year’s theme.
